Distance Education

With the world rapidly expanding, and technology at the forefront of this expansion, distance education has quickly become a widely popular option for a variety of students, with especial regard to international students. This system of accessible education has revolutionized education as a whole, and in doing so has made study programmes available to a wide variety of people. Distance learning makes the most efficient use of time possible, as students can undergo their education while at home or at work. Distance education has also proven to be incredibly cost-effective as students aren’t required to purchases textbooks, and instead all study materials are made available online. In general, course fees have amounted to being 10% less than that of a traditional university program, thus making distance education a viable option for many students.

Being a Student in a Distance Education Programme

Students enrolled in distance education programmes will be able to access all of their course materials via one online server. These materials include lectures, readings, assignments, tests, and reference materials. All that is required to study is a computer and an Internet connection, meaning you can study wherever you choose. Instructors are still readily available though to answer any questions you may have.

For added guidance, students can also opt to study at an educational-consulting centre located at the university nearest the student. Here, a teacher will monitor the student’s progress based on online assignments.

Throughout the Study in Ukraine distance education programme, students will be required to undergo credit exam sessions. These will be held as personal face-to-face meetings with an examiner. These sessions will be held at a university campus and serve as a way for students to monitor and maintain their education progress. Meetings with such examiners can also be arranged as per the student’s request.

The main difference between students in correspondence programmes and students in distance programmes, is that correspondent students must attend sessions at a university four times a year while students in distance education programmes must only come once a year.

Open Education

This is defined as “a controlled process of interactive communication between professor and student indifferent to their location. Open education is realized by means of implementation specific didactic system of different levels and programs”.

Study in Ukraine for foreign students makes use of such education by having university representatives will visit the capital cities of international students chosen study location each year to conduct “help out” seminars.

Students are also given access to a local supervisor who controls student’s studies and helps students to keep in touch with university protocols.

The Advantages of Open Education

Flexibility

Study in Ukraine makes it so students can study at times convenient to them, in an accessible location of their choosing and at a comfortable pace. Students learn as much
as is necessary for the development of personal discipline and to obtain the necessary knowledge on selected subjects.

Modularity

The whole system of open education is based on the modular principle. Each individual discipline (training course) consists of particular information in one field of learning. Thus, it allows, by means of independent training courses, to form a curriculum that meets individual or group needs.

Parallelism

The process of education can be combined with the main professional activity.

Long-range

The distance between the student and an educational institution (with the proper internet connection) is not an obstacle to effective education process.

Coverage

The number of students doesn’t influence on the quality of the education

Efficiency

The open education is cheaper than the traditional ways of obtaining higher education degrees and certificates.

Quality Education by Modern Technologies

Entrance exams are conducted in the form of one test and one face-to-face interview, the same way entrance into most universities is conducted.

Upon graduation of a distance education programme, you will receive the state diploma of higher professional education.

Distance learning is an effective way to obtain knowledge, allowing harmonious combinations of study and daily life. Distance learning is modelled on the basis of student’s learning at a comfortable and individual pace. Each student maintains their own individual schedule, a set of special teaching aids and the possibility of regular contact with the instructor. Students are able to choose how they receive their study materials whether it is via printed-paper, or via computer documents

Communication between students and teachers is carried out in several ways: by visual contact (on the weekend seminars and consultations), via telephone and postal services, e-mail; on and off-line Internet services (forum, chat, ICQ, video conferencing, etc.) and Internet portals for international students in English.

The technology involved with distance education makes it the most accessible education option available. Anyone can make use of distance education programmes from regular citizens, high school graduates and employees, the disabled, military personnel, retirees, housewives, etc.
